The purpose of this collection of photographs is to illustrate some of the problems which have been encountered by members of the HNBC, while boating on the British waterways system.
In most cases these are caused simply by those responsible for maintaining the infrastructure, not appreciating the needs of boaters, or the way in which they use the waterways.
Almost all of these problems could have been avoided AT NO EXTRA COST at the design and/or fitting stage.
There are also, of course, many instances where the job is done excellently and this is well recognised. Indeed this document is not intended as a criticism but more as an indication of best practice.
Nor is it claimed to be complete, as a much greater study would be required. It is really intended as a basis for discussion, and hopefully aiming towards greater satisfaction with the waterways by all concerned.
