Some handrails pass from the mitre and stop short at the paddle post, relying on the paddle spindle to cover the rest of the walkway. These are not satisfactory, as it requires a change of grip part way along and is in most cases too low |

When the handrail is spaced away in this manner it gives more room to cross over the beam, especially when gate paddles are fitted |
