Kev Maslin is a Black Country lad, based in Tipton at the heart of the Birmingham Canal Navigations network, and has been photographing inland waterways for nearly 40 years. His passion for the subject was ignited in May 1987 at a rally of boats held to celebrate the 150th birthday of the Titford Canal.
He often describes his photography as 'a hobby that's got ever so slightly out of hand' and was a regular contributor to the monthly specialist magazines throughout the late 1980s, the 1990s and early noughties. His freelance work in the public, private and voluntary sectors led to him writing press releases for British Waterways and spearheading the IWA's 50th anniversary publicity campaign, among many others.
He now specialises in photographing historic narrow boats, and the relentless pursuit of these fine craft takes him to some wonderful locations throughout the UK, culminating in the production of the popular Historic Narrow Boats Calendar, which is now in its eighth year.
