Despite our earlier optimism that a club gathering would be possible in May 2021 (see below), it is now looking extremely unlikely to take place due to COVID-19 restrictions.
As of November 2020, the uncertainty of being able to hold a gathering, together with the planning timeframe and financial risk to the club, means that the club committee has decided to postpone this event until a future date when circumstances are more settled.
Earlier in 2020, Ray Butler wrote some lines about the now-postponed event:
Plans are coming together for us to gather in 2021 Late May Bank Holiday weekend Friday 28 – Monday 31 May.
We've secured a shore base at the Poplar Union Centre, alongside Limehouse Cut, and are negotiating reserved moorings with CRT between Burdett Road and Bow Common bridges. The site is really handy - major supermarkets, pubs and restaurants and excellent public transport links are within 5-10 minutes walk. There is a cafe/restaurant on site at Poplar Union, and boaters' facilities are within half an hour by water.
We're still working on the programme of events, but tours of the tide mills at Bromley-by-Bow and a convoy around the recently opened Bow Back Rivers are on the cards, and we're looking into tours of Abbey Mills pumping station. There's plenty of scope for evening entertainments such as films, quiz and a ceilidh, and other fun things. (Don't worry, there WILL be a bar).
Coming to London at that time will give members an opportunity to attend the Rickmansworth Festival the previous weekend, and an excuse to explore the Lee and Stort navigations afterwards.
Michael Pinnock (London rep) is leading for the committee with support from Sue Cawson and Ray Butler. Early expressions of interest will be useful, please let Michael know by email (email@example.com) if you're up for orders for Limehouse!
